Six Lies the Devil Wants Us to Believe
George KJ - March 2025
The devil has been deceiving humanity since the beginning. As believers, we must be alert and counter his lies with God’s truth. Here are six common lies and how to overcome them.
1. "You don’t have time to pray."
The devil fears prayer. Jesus said, “Pray unceasingly” (Eph. 6:18). Even short prayers like “Jesus, I trust in You” can strengthen us. The Rosary is a powerful weapon—use it daily.
2. "You aren’t good enough."
Satan wants us to feel unworthy, but God’s grace is enough. “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Cor. 12:9). The saints, like St. Monica and St. Augustine, struggled but overcame through faith.
3. "Be anxious, for there is much to worry about."
The devil wants us to focus on fear instead of God. But Jesus says, “Do not be afraid” (Luke 12:24). Trust in Him, and He will bring peace to your heart.
4. "You have plenty of time."
One of Satan’s biggest tricks is making us delay repentance. But Jesus warns, “You also must be ready all the time” (Matt. 24:44). Seek God today, not tomorrow.
5. "Your past is irredeemable."
Satan makes us believe our sins are too great for God’s mercy. But the Bible says, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” (Rom. 8:35). No sin is greater than His forgiveness.
6. "The devil isn’t real."
Satan’s greatest trick is convincing people he doesn’t exist. But Scripture warns, “Be sober, be watchful! Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion” (1 Peter 5:8). Stay close to God through prayer and the Sacraments.
Christ has already won the battle. Stay strong in faith, trust in God’s mercy, and pray daily. “The Lord your God fights for you” (Deut. 20:4).
A Powerful Prayer for Protection
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
