The Vatican recently unveiled the official logo for the Holy Year 2025, with the motto “Pilgrims of Hope” (Peregrinantes in Spem). The Story Behind the Logo
The logo was chosen through a global competition that attracted 294 entries from 48 countries. Pope Francis personally selected the design created by Giacomo Travisani, whose vision encapsulates the theme of unity, hope, and faith.
Travisani described his inspiration: "I imagined all people moving forward together, propelled by the wind of Hope, which is the Cross of Christ and Christ Himself.”
Key Features of the Logo and Their Meaning
The Four Figures
The logo features four stylized human figures, representing all of humanity, moving together toward the Cross. Their embrace symbolizes solidarity and brotherhood, essential virtues for a world striving for peace and unity.
The Cross:
Central to the logo is the Cross, depicted as dynamic and leaning toward humanity, showing Christ's closeness to all. It bends as though to accompany pilgrims on their journey, offering comfort and hope.
The Waves:
Below the figures, the choppy waves represent the challenges and trials of life. They remind us that life’s pilgrimage is rarely smooth, yet hope guides us forward.
The Anchor:
The lower part of the Cross extends into an anchor—a timeless symbol of hope in Christian tradition. It reinforces the message that faith in Christ offers stability amidst the turbulence of life.
The Green Motto:
The motto “Peregrinantes in Spem” (Pilgrims of Hope) appears in green, a color often associated with renewal, growth, and new beginnings.
